About James

One of the most common questions in this business is "Why should I listen to you?"

Well, I'm not forcing you to, but here's a bit of background to hopefully evidence that I have the experience to know what I'm talking about, should you choose to ask me anything.

"A fool will tell you what he is going to do, a wise man will tell you what he has done."

I've worked in property since I was eight years old – a standing joke amongst my friends – and I'm pretty good at what I do. Self-employed since 2005, I have built my own businesses including two successful letting agencies (I sold the first one in 2011 and briefly retired, the other one – Fielding Properties - is ongoing), a recruitment company, a property maintenance company and a debt management company. All of them were successful and profitable ventures.

I have worked with numerous estate and letting agencies over the years, both in UK and Spain, and assisted with training and motivation (both with groups and individuals), advised on structuring, marketing, branding and have rebuilt an office in the aftermath of a rogue manager - those firms which followed my guidance did rather well as a result.

On a smaller scale, I have worked with individuals from a broad cross-section of industries including self-employed hairdressers, salespeople, even an aspiring professional actor, along with numerous other professions and have helped them to build their profiles and their businesses and to get where they wanted to be (be that more work, to improve their networking skills, to improve their work/life balance, to pick up on lost revenue streams or whatever else they were trying to establish).

With property investment, I have aided landlords from all walks of life and with very different budgets in ensuring they have spent their money wisely. Clients range from a First Time Buyer who could not afford to get on the property ladder in his local area, to high-net worth professional landlords with portfolios well into the double figures, to one multi-million pound organisation who quietly bought up numerous properties with cash.

I'm also proudly neurodiverse – diagnosed with extremely high-functioning Asperger's Syndrome – so do tend to see the world very differently to most and won't give you the usual cut and paste suggestions that you may well receive from others. Being able to see life from a different perspective can be incredibly useful in this business.

On a personal level, I also have experience with mental health challenges (both mine and those of others), alcohol issues (I stopped drinking in 2021 for numerous reasons), I'm an author (nobody ever believes you are an authority on anything until you have written a book, so "Property Investment Simplified" was published in 2007, although it is hopelessly out of date now), a landlord, I own a property in Spain, I've been both married and amicably divorced and am also the father of a teenage boy, who I love dearly.

As a result, there's a huge number of things that I can say "been there, done that, got the t-shirt" to and can offer guidance, support and suggestions based on this experience to help achieve your own goals and overcome your own obstacles.

Other things that may interest you to know? I love old cars, cooking, listening to music, watching James Bond films, collect wristwatches and vintage Action Man figures (IDGAF if this sounds geeky, it makes me happy) and am most content when I'm lying in the sunshine with a good book.
